Cairo –The Egyptian Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, discussed with the Mauritanian Ambassador to Egypt, Hussein Ould Sidi Abdullah, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the health field, and expand the partnership between the two countries in the fields of medical training, transfer of expertise, and development of health services.
During the meeting, the Egyptian Minister stressed his country’s keenness to support health cooperation with Mauritania, through exchanging experiences and expertise and providing technical support that contributes to the development of the Mauritanian health system.
The two sides discussed mechanisms for enhancing training and capacity-building programs for the benefit of health frameworks, in addition to expanding the scope of technical consultations provided by Egyptian health institutions in a number of specialties.
The two parties also discussed ways to develop cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, where it was decided to organize a visit for the Mauritanian delegation to the Arab Company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Supplies “Acdima” to learn about Egypt’s experience in manufacturing and producing medicines.
The discussions also included enhancing cooperation in the field of preventive health, benefiting from the Egyptian experience in this field, as well as examining opportunities to develop medical tourism by receiving Mauritanian patients in Egyptian hospitals.
On the therapeutic side, the two parties discussed the possibility of sending Egyptian doctors specializing in cardiology to work within Mauritanian health institutions, with the aim of supporting medical services and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, the Mauritanian ambassador praised the level of cooperation existing between the two countries, expressing his appreciation for the support provided by Egypt in the health field, and appreciating the development witnessed by the Egyptian health sector in recent years.
