Algeria –A young Algerian man caught the attention after he risked his life and climbed the facade of a ten-story residential building in the city of Oran, northwestern Algeria, to rescue two children who were trapped by fire inside an apartment on the tenth floor, in a heroic scene documented by video clips that spread widely on social networking sites.
The scenes showed the two children calling for help from the balcony of the apartment amid rising flames and thick smoke, before the young man took the initiativeBin Kalfa NasserHe climbed the front of the building, using the balconies and iron windows, until he reached them, where he worked to calm them down and cover them with a wet blanket to protect them from the smoke until the civil protection teams arrived.
The Civil Protection Directorate in the state of Oran confirmed that it intervened to extinguish the fire that broke out inside the apartment in the Yasmine neighborhood in the municipality of Bir Al-Jir, using four fire trucks, two ambulances, and a mechanical ladder, and was able to save the two children and a man, while a woman was taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
Civil Protection praised the young man’s courage, considering that he embodied the highest meanings of sacrifice and altruism. It also paid tribute to the Algerian youth who come to the aid of others in such circumstances.
For his part, the Algerian Minister of Youth praisedMustafa HidawiOn Ben Kalfa Nasser’s behavior, describing him as a “hero” who provided an honorable model for Algerian youth, stressing that what he did reflects the values of citizenship, solidarity, and the spirit of chivalry.
The video sparked widespread interaction on social media platforms, as thousands of followers demanded that the young man be honored, and considered him a rare example of courage and humanity after he risked his life to save two children from certain death.
