Rabat –The Moroccan women’s national football team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, “Morocco 2026”, after a 0-0 draw against the Senegal national team, on Monday evening, on the floor of the Moulay El Hassan stadium in Rabat, in the third and final round of the first group competitions, to secure the top spot in the group with seven points.
The match witnessed a great rivalry between the two teams, as the first half ended in a goalless draw despite mutual attempts, in light of the absence of the final touch in front of the goal.
In the second half, the “Atlas Lionesses” had the opportunity to resolve the confrontation after two penalty kicks were awarded in the 66th and 69th minutes, after the first kick was retaken due to the Senegalese goalkeeper advancing on the goal line, but Yasmine Mrabet was unable to take advantage of the two opportunities, so the situation remained tied.
The Moroccan team intensified its pressure during the last minutes in search of the winning goal, but the Senegalese defense succeeded in keeping a clean sheet, so the match ended with a score of (0-0).
With this result, the “Atlas Lionesses” finished the group stage at the top of the first group with 7 points, ahead of the Algerian team, which ranked second with 6 points, while the Senegalese team came third with 4 points, and the Kenyan team finished in last place with no score.
The Moroccan national team will enter the quarter-finals at the top of its group, continuing its journey in the continental championship hosted by the Kingdom.
