NouakchottDuring discussions held in the capital, Nouakchott, Mauritania and Senegal discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination in the field of combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling, within the framework of joint efforts to combat cross-border crimes.
The discussions took place during a meeting between the Commissioner for Human Rights and Humanitarian Action, Sayed Ahmed Banan, with a high-level Senegalese delegation visiting Mauritania, in the context of activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries regarding combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
The two sides focused on mechanisms for developing cooperation, exchanging experiences, and enhancing field coordination, which contributes to confronting human trafficking networks, reducing the phenomenon of migrant smuggling, and enhancing the protection of target groups.
The Senegalese delegation included Modo Addai, Secretary-General of the Ministerial Committee in charge of combating migrant smuggling, and Modi Njaye, Secretary-General of the National Cell to Combat Human Trafficking, along with a representative of the UNODC Regional Office for North and Central Africa.
The meeting was also attended by Assistant Commissioner Hadrami Ould Widad Mahmoud, and Director of the National Authority to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, Sheikh Tourad Ould Abdel Malik.
