The Spanish coach pointed out that the Africa Cup of Nations represents a turning point, not only for the competition for the continental title, but also because it grants qualification tickets to the Women’s World Cup finals scheduled for the summer of 2027 in Brazil.
He stressed that the team’s first goal is to reach the semi-finals to ensure direct qualification to the World Cup, before thinking about continuing the journey towards the furthest possible point in the tournament, stressing the importance of dealing with the competition step by step.
Velda added that during the past three years, the technical staff followed more than a hundred players through gatherings and training camps, before settling on a list of 26 players, which contributed to expanding the selection base and raising the level of competition within the team.
He also explained that the work focused on enhancing defensive solidity and developing offensive effectiveness, in addition to consolidating the mental aspects and competitive spirit, as they are essential elements in the development of the national team’s performance.
The Moroccan national team coach considered that playing the tournament in the Kingdom represents an additional incentive for the players rather than pressure, expressing his confidence in the ability of the Moroccan fans to provide the necessary support to the “Atlas Lionesses” during their continental journey.
The Moroccan national team begins its participation in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in the first group, which includes the teams of Senegal, Algeria and Kenya.
