Doha –Today, Monday, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI, under royal instructions, in a condolence ceremony following the death of the Father Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away at the age of 74, after a political career that spanned decades.
The condolence ceremony took place at the Emiri Palace in the city of Lusail, where Akhannouch conveyed to the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the condolences and sympathies of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and handed him a letter of condolence sent by His Majesty following the death of his father.
On this occasion, the Emir of the State of Qatar expressed his thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the King, stressing his pride in the fraternal and strong relations that unite the two countries, and in the personal relationship that links him with His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The Moroccan delegation included, in addition to the Head of Government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and His Majesty the King’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Mohamed Sitri.
In his condolence message, His Majesty the King expressed deep sorrow and deep emotion over the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, offering his deepest condolences and sincere feelings of sympathy to the Emir of the State of Qatar, the princely family and the Qatari people, asking God Almighty to cover the deceased with his vast mercy and to inspire his family with patience and solace.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is considered one of the most prominent leaders who marked the modern history of the State of Qatar. He was born in Doha in 1952, and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom in 1971, before assuming military responsibilities within the Qatari Armed Forces.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani assumed the reins of power in 1995, and during his rule he led prominent political, economic and development transformations, before announcing on June 25, 2013 that he voluntarily abdicated power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in a rare step in the region.
