Tunisia – The International Organization for Migration announced the return of 127 irregular migrants from Tunisia to Guinea, within the framework of the Assistance for Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme, via a charter flight organized in coordination with the Tunisian authorities and relevant authorities.
The International Organization for Migration’s mission in Tunisia explained that the group that left on Tuesday included 88 men, 17 women and 22 children, noting that the operation comes within efforts to support the safe and dignified return of migrants who wish to return to their countries of origin.
Administrative Assistant at the Guinean Consulate in Tunisia, Zainab Diakite, confirmed that the trip represented a “new beginning” for the returning migrants, expressing her appreciation for the support provided by the International Organization for Migration in facilitating their return and reuniting with their families.
According to the organization’s data, since January 2026, more than 4,305 irregular migrants in Tunisia have benefited from the voluntary return program, while Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon topped the list of countries to which beneficiaries returned.
The organization’s data indicates that more than 22,377 migrants have left Tunisia voluntarily since the beginning of 2022, within the framework of the program implemented in cooperation with the Tunisian authorities, national partners, and diplomatic missions of the countries of origin.
These operations come in light of continued European pressure on Tunisia to strengthen efforts to reduce irregular migration across the Mediterranean, after signing a memorandum of understanding with the European Union in 2023 that included financial support to confront the phenomenon.
