Sorman –The Judicial Police Service, Zawiya Branch, announced on Tuesday that a number of prisoners had escaped from one of the correctional and rehabilitation institutions in the city of Sorman, western Libya, coinciding with the continuing security tensions and clashes taking place in the city.
In a statement, the agency called on the escaped prisoners to immediately go to the nearest correctional and rehabilitation institution affiliated with the Zawiya branch to surrender themselves, without revealing the number of escapees or the circumstances of the escape.
These developments come at a time when the city of Sorman is witnessing tense security conditions, against the backdrop of ongoing clashes in a number of areas, which have prompted the authorities to strengthen security measures.
In the same context, the forces of the 52nd Brigade, led by Mahmoud bin Rajab, entered the city of Sorman, as part of a move aimed at containing the ongoing confrontations and working to restore stability and impose security in the region.
To date, no additional official details have been issued regarding the circumstances of the prisoners’ escape or the measures that were taken to return them to the correctional institution.
