Zouerate –The security authorities in Mauritania launched an investigation after the Zouerate court building, in the state of Tiris Zemmour, was subjected to a raid during the night hours, which resulted in the theft of a number of mobile phones kept in custody, according to local sources.
According to available information, unknown persons were able to enter the court building after breaking a window in one of the bathrooms, before heading to the seizure room and seizing a number of phones, while the final number or total value of the stolen items has not yet been determined.
A source from within the court denied the validity of the reports that talked about the disappearance of narcotic substances or sums of money from the seized items, stressing that these data are inaccurate, and that all the seized substances and sums of money are still in their places.
The source also indicated that the storming operation caused damage to some of the windows and doors of the building, while inspection work continues and evidence is being collected by the security services to identify those involved and uncover the circumstances of the incident.
This incident comes at a time when the authorities are continuing their investigations, without issuing an official statement yet clarifying additional details regarding the results of the investigation or the final size of the stolen items.
