Tunisia –A control campaign carried out by the regional administration of the National Authority for Health Safety of Food Products in the state of Medenine, during the period from 6 to 15 July, resulted in the seizure of quantities of spoiled and expired food, in addition to sending written warnings to a number of stores violating health safety conditions.
The head of the authority’s regional administration, Mohamed Naji, explained that the monitoring teams carried out 36 field inspections, which resulted in 6 written warnings being sent to stores that did not respect hygiene conditions, as part of the efforts aimed at protecting the consumer and preventing cases of food poisoning, especially during the summer.
The seizures included 65.5 liters of goat milk of unknown origin stored in unhygienic conditions, 14 liters of juice, 14 kilograms of grains, 6 kilograms of rotting vegetables, in addition to 139 kilograms of expired food items, 85 kilograms of prepared dough stored in inappropriate conditions, as well as 85 kilograms of expired dry fruits.
The official confirmed that the authority will continue to implement its summer monitoring program, in coordination with the security services and economic monitoring agencies, by intensifying inspections of restaurants, cafes, entertainment spaces, and stores open to the public in the various delegations of the state of Medenine.
The authority also called on citizens to avoid buying food items displayed under the sun or from random sellers, while checking the expiration date, and purchasing products from stores subject to health control, in order to preserve their safety.
