Dakhla –National Security and Customs personnel at the Guerguerat border crossing, south of the city of Dakhla, on Thursday afternoon, were able to thwart an international drug smuggling attempt, which resulted in the seizure of 460 kilograms of Shera, which was tightly hidden inside a truck bearing Moroccan license plates, with the arrest of its 49-year-old driver.
This joint security operation came within the framework of border control and careful inspection procedures, with the participation of trained police dogs. The inspections resulted in the discovery of drug shipments hidden inside the truck’s cargo before an attempt was made to smuggle them through the border crossing.
The competent authorities opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, in order to determine all the circumstances and circumstances of the case, reveal the identity of the remaining possible participants, and monitor the national and international extensions of this criminal network.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts made by the various security and customs agencies at the Guerguerat crossing to combat international smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances, and to confront various forms of cross-border crime.
