LibyaToday, Monday, Maltese media sources reported unconfirmed news about holding talks in Malta bringing together the Libyan National Security Advisor, Ibrahim Al-Dabaiba, and the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the forces affiliated with eastern Libya, Saddam Haftar, within the framework of meetings said to be held under the auspices of the United States of America.
According to the same sources, the talks are expected to take place in two rounds, with a Libyan government figure represented by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense in the Government of National Unity, Abdul Salam Al-Zoubi, joining the second round, alongside Saddam Haftar.
The sources added that the meetings are being held, according to circulating information, under the chairmanship of Massad Boulos, advisor to the US President for Middle East and African affairs, and within the framework of American mediation, without any official confirmation from the Libyan, American, or Maltese authorities yet.
She also indicated that, on the sidelines of these meetings, Libyan officials met with Maltese officials, including Foreign Minister Chris Fearne and Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, during a break between the talks sessions.
This news comes in the context of previous media reports that talked about meetings between Ibrahim Al-Dabaiba and Saddam Haftar, including a meeting said to have been held in the Italian capital, Rome, during September 2025, followed by another meeting in Paris during January 2026, according to what was reported by the media at the time.
