Ghat –The municipality of Ghat, southwestern Libya, witnessed a complete power outage after two power transmission towers fell on the line between Ubari and Al-Awainat, as a result of strong winds and bad weather conditions, according to what the municipality of Ghat announced in an official statement.
The statement explained that this sudden malfunction caused the cessation of basic services, most notably drinking water wells, which were already suffering from weak electrical stability, which led to a noticeable decline in water supplies and exacerbated the residents’ suffering.
The Ghat Municipality confirmed that the damaged line is considered one of the vital structures in the region, stressing the necessity of subjecting it to regular maintenance and careful follow-up, given the harsh climatic conditions to which the region is exposed, which causes frequent malfunctions.
The municipality warned that the absence of preventive maintenance programs contributes to the continuation of outages and their direct impact on the lives of citizens, calling on the General Electricity Company to adopt a permanent plan to maintain transmission lines and transfer stations to ensure the stability of the electrical network.
